Padparadscha sapphires are one of the rarest of sapphires. These extremely rare stones are unknown to most, but when discovered usually become an absolute favorite. They are strikingly beautiful and almost no other colored stone compares to this unique mix of pink and orange.

Taaffeite is a mineral, named after its discoverer Richard Taaffe who found the first sample, a cut and polished gem, in October 1945 in a jeweler's shop in Dublin, Ireland. As such, it is the only gemstone to have been initially identified from a faceted stone. Wikipedia

Taaffeite – $2,500 per carat. Taaffeite is not very familiar to many due to how rare it is. In fact, it is so scarce that it's considered to be a million times rarer than a diamond. It was discovered by gemologist Richard Taaffe in 1945 in a jeweler's shop in Dublin, Ireland.
Taaffeite can easily be mistaken for spinel judging from its refractive index and specific gravity range, but taaffeite is most definitely birefringent while spinel is not, although spinel can exhibit anomalous double refraction(ADR) due to internal stain.Jul 13, 2009
